| Pelo segundo ano consecutivo a ExxonMobil ocupa o primeiro lugar no ranking das empresas mais lucrativas dos EUA. O resultado financeiro de 2006 estampou um lucro de US$ 39,5 bilhões – US$ 3,4 bilhões a mais do que no ano anterior. E não é preciso ser um analista financeiro para descobrir o que motivou o resultado recorde: o lucro foi impulsionado pela alta nos preços do petróleo – em 2006, os preços médios do barril brent foram de US$ 65, 19% acima da média de 2005, quando já ultrapassava a casa dos US$ 50. A Exxon não foi a única a se beneficiar. A Shell também anunciou um lucro recorde de US$ 25, 4 bilhões – 0,5% a mais que os US$ 25,31 bilhões de 2005. Resultados recordes começam a animar o debate nos EUAS acerca da tributação sobre lucros. As quatro maiores petroleiras do mundo – ExxonMobil, Shell, BP e Chevron – lucraram juntas US$ 100 bilhões em 2006. A Chevron, segunda maior petroleira americana, lucrou US$ 17,14 bilhões em 2006 – resultado 22% superior aos US$ 14,10 bilhões do ano anterior. Já a BP viu seu lucro crescer 15%, para US$ 22,3 bilhões. A ConocoPhillips lucrou em 2006 US$ 15,55 bi – 14% mais do que em 2005. A Total anunciou lucro recorde de € 12,58 bilhões em 2006, o maior já registrado por uma empresa francesa. A norueguesa Statoil obteve no ano passado um lucro recorde de 40,615 bilhões de coroas norueguesas (US$ 6,5 bilhões), 32% a mais que no ano anterior. |

| For the second consecutive year, Exxon Mobil takes first place in the ranking of the most profitable companies in the USA. The financial result for 2006 showed a profit of US$ 39.5 billion – US$ 3.4 billion more than the previous year. And one does not need a financial analyst to discover what led to the record result: profit was boosted by the rise in oil prices – in 2006, the average price for a barrel of Brent was US$ 65.00, 19% over the 2005 average when it exceeded the US$ 50.00 level. Exxon was not the only one to benefit. Shell has also announced a record profit of US$ 25.4 billion – 0.5% more than the US$ 25.31 billion in 2005. The record results have added fuel to the debate in USA about taxing profits. The world’s four largest oil companies – Exxon Mobil, Shell, BP e Chevron – together recorded profits of US$ 100 billion, in 2006. Chevron, the second largest American oil company, made a profit of US$ 17.14 billion in 2006 – a result 22% greater than the US$ 14.10 billion of the previous year, while BP saw its profit increase by 15%, to US$ 22.3 billion. ConocoPhillips made a profit in 2006 of US$ 15.55 bi – 14% more than in 2005. Total has announced a record profit of € 12.58 billion in 2006, the largest ever registered by a French company. The Norwegian Statoil obtained record profits last year of 40.615 billion Norwegian krona (US$ 6.5 billion), 32% more than the previous year. |
